New Cadet Oath Ceremony
Sunday, 1 September
New Market Battlefield State Historical Park, New Market, VA.
- Park opens at 9 am.
- Ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
- Parade through New Market begins at 2 p.m.
New Cadets will take a historic tour and recite the Cadet Oath. They will charge across the battlefield exactly as the New Market cadets did on May 15, 1864.
Following the formal events, cadets will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch with their families and friends. Box lunches will be provided to all cadets, as well as for those family members who purchased tickets on Matriculation Day from the Parents Council. Those who did not buy tickets on Matriculation Day for box lunches may purchase food in New Market or bring their own picnic lunch.
The events at New Market conclude with a parade through the town after lunch. Cadets must return to Post on the buses, but will be able to sign out to spend time that evening with their parents in Lexington. All new cadets must return to post no later than 10:00 p.m.
