Career Path 

MSG Huber is assigned to the Military Science ARMY ROTC Department at Kilbourne Hall, VMI, Lexington, VA. He is an Enlisted Army 19Z Cavalry Scout.

MSG Huber enlisted into the US Army on 24 February 1994 from Janesville, Wisconsin as a delayed entry program Soldier. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. as an Army Reservist finishing High School in the Heavy Combat Engineer BN in Racine, WI. Upon Graduation, he was then enlisted into Active Duty as a Cavalry Scout, he then attended One Station Unit Training at Ft. Knox, KY. During OSUT he participated and was inducted into the Excellence in Cavalry program and was promoted to PFC. After completion of training he was assigned to HHC Scout Platoon, 1-18 IN, 24th ID, Ft. Benning, GA. He was a Dismount, Driver and Gunner on an M3A2 CFV. He shot his 1st Gunnery Table VIII and received the Distinguished rating as a SPC. MSG Huber’s unit was then re-flagged to HHC 1-15 IN, 3rd ID, later moving up to join the BN Snipers. He participated in multiple NTC rotations, DRF exercises, a deployment to Jordan and was runner up as the 3rd BDE, 3rd ID  Soldier of the Year.

MSG Huber departed Ft. Benning, GA. in May 1998 and was stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany assigned to A TRP, 1-1 CAV, 1st AD as a Team Leader and M3A2 CFV Gunner. Immediately after in processing, he was deployed downrange to his unit in Bosnia at Camp Demi. He served as Team Leader and M60 Gunner on a HMMWV operating in Kladanj and Sarajevo. After returning from Bosnia he served as a Section Sergeant and HQ OPS NCO. During his tenure in Europe he also conducted numerous Hoenfels and Grafenwohr rotations, also validated the BRT in Baumholder, GE. MSG Huber attended SFAS at Ft.. Bragg, NC and was selected for Special Forces. After a short 5 months as an SFQC student MSG Huber made the SFC list as a 19D and decided to make the Armor and Cavalry community his career path.

He then volunteered to go to Ft. Polk, LA in February 2001, assigned to D TRP, 1st BN, 509th (ABN). He served as a Section Sergeant, Scout Platoon Sergeant and Troop Air NCO in the OPFOR. After over 30 rotations, the Army’s Stryker vehicle testing and validation, and multiple Airborne Operations, MSG Huber volunteered to PCS and stand up the 1st RSTA in the Army as a Scout Platoon Sergeant in January 2004. He was assigned to B TRP, 1-61 CAV, 506th IN (ABN) (ASSLT), Ft. Campbell, KY. He participated in numerous training exercises and a JRTC validation where his Troop was selected as the BDE Spearhead. Upon returning and activating as the 1st RSTA in the Army, his unit deployed to Iraq and served with distinction in Baghdad, including: Salman Pak, Ahdymia, and Sadr City. After his return MSG Huber was selected to be an Instructor at the Maneuver-ANCOC in February 2007.

He was assigned to USA NCOA/DSS at Ft. Knox, KY. During his tenure MSG Huber developed and validated new POIs and course material for the future of SLC. He graduated numerous Maneuver-ANCOC students and classes. In 2008, MSG Huber was selected for promotion to MSG and was put on assignment for 4th BDE, 25th IN (ABN), Ft. Richardson, AK. Upon his arrival in June he was assigned to 1st SQDN, 40th CAV (ABN), was promoted to 1SG and took responsibility as the BTRP 1SG. Once his family was settled he moved down range to NTC to link up with his Troop. During his tenure as 1SG, MSG Huber conducted numerous training exercises, Jumpmaster, Pathfinder duties and prepared the Troop for combat in Afghanistan. The Troop operated in Paktika and Paktya provinces at COP Deysie and Camp Clark. After re-deployment from Afghanistan, MSG Huber was selected and put on assignment to VMI where he is currently assigned to the ARMY ROTC Department.

MSG Huber has attended the US Army Ranger, Airborne, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, Air Assault, Ropemaster, NBC defense, SGI and numerous Instructor Training Courses. He has also attended all the US Army NCO Educations Courses through E-8.

Personal 

MSG Huber has been married since 1995 to the former Dory L. Winger of Edgerton, WI. They have 3 boys: Hunter, Mason, and Lars. Residing here in Lexington, VA.
