Herald Trumpets and Drummers
Listen: Band Star Spangled Banner
Listen: Band Doxology
The Herald Trumpets were founded in 1976 and march in the Regimental Band for special occasions, in addition to performing at prestigious locations. Recently the unit performed at the Homestead and Greenbriar resorts and Constitution Hall in Washington D.C., and last year the group performed in New York City, at the public library.
With magnificent fanfares and patriotic music the Herald Trumpets add a splash of color and pageantry to the Regimental Band. The Herald Trumpets can be spotted leading the Corps on marchdown before Saturday football games including solo performances of the National Anthem and the VMI Spirit before and after VMI home games, respectively.
The VMI Drummers perform each day to march the Corps to chow hall formations. This drum and bugle corps style drumline consists of 7 snares, 2 quads, 4 tenors, 4 tonal basses and cymbals. The VMI drumline is led by Cadet Paul Keeton '00 and writes its own cadences. The drum line also performs a Corps-styled drum feature at halftime shows and other events. The line is essential to the mission of the band.
