What We've Learned at School: Stories from the Classroom
In his 1976 Braddock Award-winning essay "What I Learned at School," Jim Corder demonstrated the value of honest reflection on the circumstances of teaching writing. Recently scholarship has returned to an interest in the stories that teachers can tell about their experiences in the classroom.
At the 2000 symposium, our goal is to feature these stories and examine them for lessons about the personal and professional effects of the act of teaching. Presentations by Lisa Ede (Oregon State University), Andrea Lunsford (Stanford University), and Steve North (University at Albany, SUNY) will open up conversations about what the teacher might learn in the complex world of the writing classroom.
