Parents Council Welcome Reception
Friday, 17 August 2012 in Marshall Hall - Center for Leadership and Ethics from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
The VMI Parents Council hosts a Pre-Matriculation Reception for parents of new cadets. Invitations are sent to the incoming cadets and their parents, who accept by returning a response card and pre-paying for the number attending. Tickets are sent directly to the parents.
The deadline for pre-paying for tickets, or canceling and receiving a refund, is 3 August 2012. Col. Bill Grace, Superintendent’s Liaison to the Parents Council, is the coordinator for this event and he can be contacted for additional information at (540)464-7072 or GraceWR10@vmi.edu.

NOTE: Parents should give their cadets spending money, credit cards, checkbooks, etc. prior to going to Cameron Hall for the beginning of the 2:00 Superintendent's Welcome Ceremony.
Matriculation
7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Cameron Hall
Matriculation Fair
8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Crozet Hall (Mess Hall)
Various VMI agencies, local bankers, local ministers and representatives from several other organizations will be present from the VMI community.
Superintendent's Welcome
2:00 p.m. Cameron Hall
New cadets and their parents will be welcomed by VMI's Superintendent, General J.H. Binford Peay, III '62 and introduced to the Dean of Faculty, the Commandant of Cadets, the Co-President of the VMI Parents Council, and the Class Advisor.
The new cadets will leave their parents following the ceremony to begin their nine-day cadre period.
March Off
Approximately 2:30 p.m. Cameron Hall
New cadets will be formed into companies to begin their nine day cadre training period. Family and friends may watch the march off in Cameron Hall.
Finish for the day

Two weeks after matriculation
New Cadet Oath Ceremony Sunday, 2 September
11:00 a.m. New Market Battlefield State Historical Park in New Market, VA.
New Cadets will take a historic tour and recite the Cadet Oath. They will charge across the battlefield exactly as the New Market cadets did on May 15, 1864.
Following the formal events, cadets will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch with their families and friends. If desired, VMI will provide box lunches, but they must be ordered from the Parents Council at Matriculation.
The events at New Market conclude with a parade through the town after lunch. Cadets must return to Post on the buses, but will be able to sign out to spend time that evening with their parents in Lexington.
