Campus Visit

The campus visit is the most important part of the college selection process. Brochures and view books are informative, but a campus visit brings alive everything you've read about and helps you to determine if VMI is the best place for you to spend the next four years of your life.

Open House - Overnight Visit
Each fall, admissions invites all HS junior and seniors on the mailing list to an Overnight Open House program.

Individual / Interview Visit
It is recommended that applicants visit VMI for an interview and a tour of the VMI Post.

Group Visits
Perfect for Guidance Counselors, JROTC Unit Commanders, and Scout Leaders

Cadet Guided Tours

Download the Post MapCadet guided tours are offered daily (dependent on Cadet availability) at 12:00 noon departing from the lobby of the VMI Museum in Jackson Memorial Hall (Level 200). The tour lasts approximately 50 minutes.

Contact the VMI Museum at (540) 464-7334 for more information.

Lexington, Virginia Area Information

"From one end of Lexington and the Rockbridge area to the other, you will find a landscape that stirs the mind, spirit, and intellect. Beauty here is as vigilant as the 215-foot high stone arch that spans a valley. As timeless as a sunset over the final resting place of Stonewall Jackson. As enduring as the Native Americans who share the stories of their Monacan Indian ancestors. And as fresh as an Asian pear plucked from the orchard.

A trip to our part of the world is not your typical wait-in-line, jump-a-coaster, eat-an-overpriced funnel-cake kind of excursion. It's a unique intersection of indoors and out. People and places. Artisans and equestrians. A place where you can hand-feed a giraffe or explore our country's heritage. In Lexington and the Rockbridge area, our caverns are not the only deep experience you'll have. Lexington & the Rockbridge Area Tourism provides destination  marketing for the cities of Lexington and Buena Vista, Rockbridge County, and the Lexington/ Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce.

Cadets who enjoy outdoor sports and activities will find many options from which to choose. The Lexington Visitor's Guide points out: The great outdoors of Lexington, Buena Vista and the Rockbridge area-where memories are made, naturally. Scenic byways and beautiful countryside connect the quaint cities and villages that make up the Rockbridge Area. With over 58,000 acres of National Forest in Rockbridge County and over 20,000 acres of state-managed land, you can enjoy a hike along a stream lined with mountain laurel or a stroll on the same path that was once a rail road. Fish our stocked rivers for bass, catfish and trout. Run the rapids of Goshen Pass in a canoe or kayak or simply float along the Maury River in an inner tube. Enjoy bicycling through the Blue Ridge Mountains or horseback riding with one of our outfitters." - As described in the Lexington Visitor's Guide
