Major Aaron Culp
Assistant Professor of Military Science, Military Police
Major Aaron J. Culp is a native of Okanogan, Washington. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in July 1988. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps in December 1998 from Central Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and Justice (Pre-Law).
Major Culp’s assignments include company Executive Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and battalion S1, Okinawa, Japan. At the end of this tour, he received a branch transfer to the Military Police Corps and subsequently attended the MP Captain’s Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then deployed with the 18th MP Brigade to Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 (OIF 1) where he functioned as the brigade Battle Captain. This was followed by duties as a brigade Assistant S3 and Company Commander, 560th MP Company, Mannheim, Germany. Beginning in September 2006, he served as the Aide-de-Camp to the CG, U.S. Army CID Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia followed by battalion S3, Washington CID Battalion, Fort Myer, Virginia. In 2008, Major Culp deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Detention Operations OIC for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula in Baghdad, Iraq. Upon redeployment, he attended Interagency Intermediate Level Education at Fort Belvoir, Virginia followed by a 12 month tour serving as an Interagency Fellow with the U.S. Marshals Service, Arlington, Virginia. In August of 2010, Major Culp and family moved to Grafenwoehr, Germany where he assumed responsibilities as the battalion S3 with the 709th MP Battalion for over a year till he transitioned to the Executive Officer position which he filled until the spring of 2013. Major Culp is currently assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and the MS II Branch Chief at the Virginia Military Institute.
Major Culp is married to the former Heather Moore of Malott, Washington. They reside in Lexington, Virginia with their son Gunnar (18) and daughter Masyn (13). His hobbies include skiing, riding (Harley Road King Classic), camping, hiking, shooting, deer and elk hunting, and fishing.
