About the Professors

Col. Mary Ann Dellinger, PhD, MAEd.

Col. Dellinger is a Professor of Spanish in the VMI Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. She holds a doctorate in Spanish from Arizona State University as well as a Masters in Bilingual/Multicultural Education from the University of Arizona. Her scholarly work focuses on second language pedagogy and Spanish (Peninsular) cultural studies. As part of the VMI Teacher Education Program, Col. Dellinger teaches “Methods of Secondary Education,” “Methods of Foreign Language Education,” and directs the Student Practicum. Col. Dellinger has won several teaching awards including VMI’s “Distinguished Teaching Award” and two nominations to the SCHEV “Outstanding Faculty Award” (Commonwealth of Virginia).

Lt. Col. Elaine Humphrey, PhD, MAEd.

Lt. Col. Humphrey is Director of the Miller Academic Center and Director of the Teacher Education Program. She earned a Masters in Education as well as her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech. She will co-teach “Foundations in Education” and “Practicum in Education” in Fall 2013. Lt. Col. Humphrey has more than 14 years of experience in the academic success profession in higher education. Her work has included facilitating first-year students, veterans, student-athletes, and under-represented students in their endeavors to be academically successful
