Major Reinaldo Rivera

Maj. Reinaldo Rivera was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico. He began his military career in 1993 when he enlisted in the US Army, MOS 91R Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist. In 2002, Maj. Rivera received his commission through the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA and was selected to become a Field Artillery Officer. Maj. Rivera’s assignments include Platoon Leader and Battery Executive Officer in Apache Battery, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom I. Maj. Rivera has also served as the Squadron Fire Support Officer and Assistant S-3 in the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment before assuming command of King Battery, 1st Squadron, 3d ACR on 4 July 2008 during OIF 07-09. His most recent assignment was as the Troop Commander of the 3d ACR Regimental Headquarters Troop.

Maj. Rivera’s military education includes Basic Combat Training (Ft. Leonard Wood), 91R Advanced Individual Training (Ft. Sam Houston), Primary Leadership Development Course (Ft. Stewart), Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (Ft. Sam Houston), Officer Candidate School (Ft. Benning), Field Artillery Basic Officer Course (Ft. Sill), Captains’ Career Course (Ft. Sill), and the Tactical Electronic Warfare Officer Course (Ft. Huachuca.) His duty assignments include Ft. Belvoir, Ft. Buchanan, Ft. Monroe, USNS SATURN (TAFS 10) and Ft. Hood. In 2006 he received his Bachelors of Professional Studies from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. Maj. Rivera has deployed 3 times to Iraq in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.

Maj. Rivera’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.

Maj. Rivera is married to the former Julie Huddleston and has three children: Reinaldo, Sydney, and Adeline.
