Preparing a Poster Presentation

Size of Poster Boards 

You will have 3 posterboards mounted side by side as shown below.  Each board is 22” wide by 34” tall.  The boards are  royal blue color.

Suggested Layouts 

Here are several possible layouts.  Each rectangle is the scale size of an 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper.

• The board is elevated on a table so the bottom of the board is approximately 2 feet off the ground. Bring push pins to tack your poster to the board.
• The title of your poster should appear at the top in large letters. Please limit your poster title length. Poster titles using a font size of 60 point will stand out and be easy to read. The minimum font size for poster titles should be 36 point. Below the title put the author(s)' name(s) and department(s).
• Carefully and completely prepare your poster in advance of the conference. Tack it up on the board outside Room 403 NEB to make sure everything fits.
• Your poster should cover the key points of your work. It need not attempt to include all the details; you can describe them to people who are interested. The ideal poster is designed to attract attention, provide a brief overview of your work, and initiate discussion.
• The flow of your poster should be from the top left to the bottom right. Often the first sheet of paper is the abstract.
• You may wish to use color for highlighting and to make your poster more attractive. Keep in mind the posterboard is a royal blue.
• Use pictures, diagrams, cartoons, figures, etc., rather than text wherever possible.
• Try to state your main result in large lettering. This way people can read the poster from a distance.
• People will not read a lot of text, and certainly won't read typewriter-sized text. The smallest text on your poster should be at least 18 point, and the important points should be in a larger size.
• Make your poster as self-explanatory as possible. This will save your efforts for technical discussions.

You may want to add a VMI or URI logo to your title page or abstract, but it is not required.  Below are some samples.
