Faculty Position - Assistant Professor of Arabic

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Virginia Military Institute invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Arabic beginning 1 August 2014. Tenure-track; Specialization open; Ph.D. in Arabic. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach Arabic at all levels (elementary, intermediate and advanced) in addition to literature and culture. Native or near-native fluency in MSA and English required. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year and also participate in academic advising, committee work, research, and mentoring of undergraduate research. Faculty members at VMI wear uniforms and adhere to military customs, but military experience is not required. Virginia Military Institute is a state-supported four-year undergraduate military college of liberal arts, engineering, and the sciences. It is located in the southern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Lexington, population 7,000, is also home to Washington and Lee University and offers a stimulating cultural atmosphere in a pleasant, rural setting. Position open until filled.
