COBRA is extended coverage of your health benefits. An employee who would ordinarily lose coverage due to a qualifying event (resignation, termination except for gross misconduct) may elect to extend coverage at his/her own expense for up to 18 months. A dependent of an employee who loses coverage because of a qualifying event (divorce, death, loss of dependent child status) may elect to extend coverage at his/her own expense for up to 36 months.
